The Food We Eat:

During the active weight loss phase of my programs administered at the clinic all of the appropriate foods are handed in written format to each patient.  There is no medical guessing on my part as to why the person gains weight so easy with my testing results in hand, and there will be no guessing as to what to eat for the patient.  The basic guidelines for the foods that are the most healthy and conducive to losing weight are not new.  The Glycemic Index (GI) has been around since the 1970's and is still a fantastic way to begin controlling the types of sugar the patient eats.

The GI is simply a measure as to how fast a particular food is digested and turned into a sugar and what type of effect it has on the release of insulin.  Because insulin is the enemy of weight loss.  If I were asked which hormone I could control, and I could only pick one with the largest impact on losing weight I would pick insulin hands down.  We really are what we eat on a regular basis.  If we in general eat unhealthy foods we will eventually also become unhealthy.  What represents healthy foods and which foods have the greatest positive impact on insulin will be revealed in the book.  Most importantly I will send every doctor that requests it a copy of my "Advanced Medical Weight Loss protocols: The Ashworth Weigh" free of charge. The doctor will receive a request form from a patient that has the book.  The book will have a page at the end that can be filled out and sent to our distribution center, which will send the manual to the doctor.

An important point to remember is that one can not sacrifice all sorts of the more common foods we eat in an effort to include ONLY low GI foods.  That is why so many people fail after the fact.  What do I mean by after the fact?  Well, the most important part of losing weight is keeping it off.  I have strived to create my food programs so that after the weight is lost the person will be able to generally eat the same way they have been eating during the active weight loss phase.  I have had people ask me will I ever be able to go back to eating "normal".  The answer is 'NO", because normal is not really normal.  It has become normal because so many eat this way.  But remember over 70% of the U.S. is overweight, so normal may be the way the majority eats, but it will not be normal for any of the people who lose weight the healthy way.  This is simply the correct types of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, seafoods, and starches among many others. They will just be foods that in general affect the body in a more positive way encouraging fat burning instead of fat storage.

How do I encourage fat burning? By controlling the enemy hormone to all that is healthy weight loss...insulin.  Just like I mentioned above, it is the the speed at which the food is taken out of the intestinal track, transferred into the blood, and converted to sugar. This amount and type of sugar dictates how much insulin is released into the blood to push the sugar into the cells of your body.  This is a necessary process, but one that we would like to have a minimal impact on our ability to lose or maintain weight.  The programs used in "The Ashworth Weigh" weight loss programs are all based on the study of how to have the lowest impact on the release of insulin.  This ofcourse is ALL based on FIRST finding out if there is anything going on medically that can be corrected to make weight loss easier than it has ever been for the patient.
